Cardiff Welcomes Back Trans Pride for 2023: A 3-Day Extravaganza

Cardiff Trans Pride is back, and it's bigger and better than ever before! From the 15th to the 17th of September, Cardiff will once again play host to the vibrant and empowering Trans Pride celebration. This 3-day weekend event promises an array of activities and performances that will uplift and unite the trans community and allies of all ages.

The Trans Pride Cardiff Committee, comprised of Aiman Rahim, Alisha Ahmed, Jien Ty, Kay Dennis, Nerida Bradley, and Rudy Harries, in collaboration with The Queer Emporium, has meticulously curated an exciting lineup of events that is sure to leave a lasting impression on attendees.


The festivities kick off with a bang on Friday, September 15th, with the FREE Protest Pre-Game at the Queer Emporium from 3pm to 6pm. This event is open to people of all ages and will feature a Banner and Sign Making Workshop hosted by the S.P.A.F. Collective (@spafcollective). Participants will have the opportunity to create their own Pride signs for the Saturday March. Additionally, Community Stalls by grassroots groups like Glitter Cymru (@glittercymru), Impact LGBT+ (@impactlgbtq), Inaccessible Cardiff (@inaccessiblecardiff), Trans Tech Tent (@transtechtent), Welsh Gender Service (gender.wales), Queer Manifesto of Wales (@queermanifestowales), and Trans Vision Cymru will be present to engage in meaningful conversations and answer any questions.


Later that evening, at 8pm, The Queer Emporium (2 Royal Arcade, Cardiff CF10 1AE) will host a special edition of Transition, featuring electrifying performances by Telgate (@telgateuk), Justin Drag (@justin.drag), and Asian Purrrsuasion (@asianpurrrrrsuasion). Tickets for this unforgettable event are available on the Queer Emporium website (https://bit.ly/transitionCTP) starting at just £7, and it's open to those aged 14 and above.


The highlight of the weekend arrives on Saturday, September 16th, with the Pride March commencing at 11.30am from The Queer Emporium. The march will wind its way through The Hayes and culminate at Dyddiau Du at the Capitol Centre (Queen St, Cardiff CF10 2HQ). An accessible reduced route will also be available, starting at Burger King at the corner of Duke Street and St. John Street (St. John, 12-14 St John St, Cardiff CF10 1GL). Best of all, the Pride March is FREE and open to all ages.


Following the march, from 3pm to 6pm, Dyddiau Du at the Capitol Centre will host an Acoustic Afternoon, where you can enjoy the poetry of Vidhi Chaudhary (@vidhi2690), Shahbaaz Shahnawaz, and the musical talents of Incorrigible Girl, a.k.a. Frances Bolley (@incorrigiblegirlband).


As the evening sets in, starting from 8pm, multiple Afterparties will take place at Mary’s (89 St Mary St, Cardiff CF10 1DW), The Golden Cross Pub (283 Hayes Bridge Rd, Cardiff CF10 1GH), and Main Stage Bar (21 St Mary St, Cardiff CF10 1PL), catering to an 18+ audience. These afterparties promise a night of dancing and celebration.


On Sunday, September 17th, the Trans Aid Cymru Craft Fair will take place at the Queer Emporium from 12pm to 5pm. This event is FREE and welcomes people of all ages. Around ten queer and trans, intersex and nonbinary artists from across Wales will be selling prints, zines, ceramics, stickers, and more. And sorry to say it but It's the perfect opportunity for some early Christmas present shopping! Attendees can also write supportive letters to Sarah Jane Baker, a trans woman who was recently recalled to prison as a political prisoner after making a speech at Trans Pride London that offended transphobic activists.


For those who adore dogs, there will be a Queer Dog Walk starting from The Queer Emporium at 4pm. It's free for all ages, and the route will be determined by the preferences of the participants. Anyone, with or without a dog, is welcome to join and enjoy the company of Cardiff's cutest and gayest canine residents.


The weekend concludes with Express Yourself at The Queer Emporium at 8pm. Entry will require a suggested donation of £5 at the door to support Impact LGBTQ+ Youth Group. The Impact youth group, in collaboration with Asian Purrsuasion, will take to the runway to celebrate authenticity, self-expression, and empowerment. This event is open to those aged 12 and above.
