Lead Editor

Are you passionate about LGBTQ+ advocacy?

Do you want to be part of a team at the forefront of promoting the stories and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community within Wales?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for someone to lead the creative vision for amplifying LGBTQ+ voices and stories in, of, and from Wales.

About us

Formed in 2020 to connect LGBTQ+ communities on-line, LGBTQymru is Wales’ only all-Wales, bilingual LGBTQ+ community website which publishes weekly online articles about all aspects of LGBTQ+ life in Wales.

In addition to our weekly publications, we are proud to be the home of Wales’ first and only Wales-wide Virtual Pride and two anthologies of poetry and short stories that explore the intersection at one’s sexual orientation and/or gender identity with ethnicity, and eating disorders.

About the role

As the Volunteer Lead Editorial, you'll lead in driving our content strategy. Your creative vision will shape our storytelling efforts, ensuring our messages reflect and resonate with our audiences. From articles to social media content, you'll lead a team of writers, ensuring the delivery of powerful narratives that amplify LGBTQ+ voices and experiences.

As a registered charity, the successful candidate will also be supported by the Board of Trustees, who oversee the Charity’s strategy and ensure effective governance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the editorial direction of our content across all platforms, ensuring it aligns with our charitable aims and values.

  • Lead a team of volunteer Editors and our Social Media and Engagement Lead in curating content and delivering it to our customers.

  • Collaborate with writers and contributors to create compelling, inclusive, and impactful stories.

  • Develop and implement editorial strategies to enhance our online and offline presence.

  • Monitor content performance and adapt strategies for maximum reach and impact.

As a voluntary role, we anticipate a minimum time commitment of a couple of hours a month.

Who are we looking for?

If you have:

  • A passion and vision for storytelling.

  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a diverse team effectively and inclusively.

  • Broad understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, experiences, and sensitivities.

  • Commitment to our cause and values.

  • Some experience in content creation.

Then we’d love to hear from you!

Creating an inclusive and diverse organisation that reflects the communities we serve is extremely important to us, and we therefore welcome applications from people from an ethnic minority background, diverse cultural heritage, and people living with disabilities/long-term health conditions.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to make a tangible difference in the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Gain valuable leadership experience in a non-profit setting.

  • Collaborate with passionate individuals dedicated to social change.
